New Additions: Black and Mirrored Feather Ear Cuffs

Did some experimenting with new pieces on Instagram, and people really dug these--so now they're for sale! I'm always showing my followers jewelry I'm messing around with, so if you see something you like, let me know and just maybe it'll be the latest addition to my shops :).

These feather ear cuffs are a dramatic accessory that are a centerpiece to any outfit, no other jewelry necessary (at least around the neck, rings would work). I took one out for a test drive and I got a ton of compliments. Especially with the mirrored ones, a little turn of the head will give someone a flash from across the room. They have clip-on earring backs as opposed to a normal cuff that you have to bend to open and close. So you can clip these to your ears, to shirt collars, the side of heels, breast pockets, and anything that needs a "bird on it".

KidViskous Jewelry For Over 60% Off Now On Fab.com!

Good news everyone: We've made it on Fab.com

My favorite discount shopping destination, KidViskous is featured in Fab.com's new weekly fashion shop, discounted over 60%! Within an hour of the sale being live today, I was getting message and email props from people I haven't spoken to in years--I knew Fab was big, but not this big! It was thrilling to see KidViskous featured in their email blast, which goes out to over 1.6 million users so of course I had to celebrate with some Cat Paint!

Update: Sale ended, thanks so much everyone!

It's an invite-only site and there's a waiting period to be approved, but you can use our special invite link to get access immediately! They're featuring 24 KidViskous styles, including moustache rings and necklaces, beards, feathers, big crosses, glasses, vampire teeth, word bubble necklaces and more.

The KidViskous sale goes until February 28th, 7pm ET / 4pm PT -- check the nifty countdown clock on the top left corner in red!

Along with fashion, Fab.com is a must-shop destination for all design-savvy folks, from chic housewares to sleek electronics, and even organic foods and fancy stuff for you pet. Stunningly designed, beautifully curated, the site is alluringly formatted to make you want to shop 'til your mouse/tap finger falls off! They also have a fantastic mobile app which I personally used to shop in bed a minute after waking up in the morning (twice). I've already bought a gold umbrella and a cool poster of legendary designers Charles and Ray Eames riding a motorcycle. Not to get nerdy, but the user experience of the site is phenomenal!

A little insider knowledge. Once I was approved for the sale, I had to hold the inventory I had until the sale started. Because of that, if things sell out on Fab (which they hopefully will!), they're gone for good! I'm no longer making any more of these styles, so if you've had your eye on something, now is the last chance to snatch it up! xo

I Hate Mondays Giveaway! Win KidViskous Swag!

We don't even need to go into why Mondays totally suck (mine has been particularly crappy today), so in a effort to spread some love and lighten the blow that each Monday brings we're giving away some KidViskous swag! In time for Valentine's Day tomorrow, we're kicking off by giving away one of our fave pieces ever, our Venetian Blinders necklace in neon pink.
What I'm most proud of is that the double-layered aspect allows the wearer to have both a neon pink and a silver mirrored color, all in one necklace with just a flip!

To enter, go to the KidViskous Facebook page, "Like" our page then "Like" the photo we posted of our giveaway item. The winner will be chosen at random and announced next Monday, February 20th!

We're gonna do giveaway contests for our kick ass fans 1-2 Mondays a month, so check back here and our Facebook page for more contests. <3

Day 7: 50% Off JewelMint Bling With Code "fall112"

I know there are plenty of you out there who haven't even thought about the mounting holiday shopping list as it gets closer to Xmas/Hanukkah. I've definitely been guilty of sending "New Years" cards because I didn't get to sending Christmas cards out soon enough. If you're looking for a gift that literally keeps on giving, you can sign a friend/girlfriend/wife/anyone/cat/pirate/why not yourself up for monthly jewelry deliveries from JewelMint.com!

I'm stoked that the JewelMint team contacted me to help promote some stunning jewelry designed by bi-eye-colored actress Kate Bosworth and designer Cher Coulter. Certainly helped knock a day off my 12 Days of Xmas Gift Ideas list, and helps ease your emptying holiday wallet right away.
Here's a gift from me to you: Copy and paste fall112 at checkout for 50% off your first month of JewelMint, courtesy of the Los Angeles Mint Brand Ambassador Team.

Click through for more about JewelMint:

How it works: Click here to join and take the Style Quiz to create your own personal showroom. Every month, new styles are added to your showroom based on your tastes for you to choose from.

Each piece is $29.99, but with our very own discount code, you can get your first piece for $14.99 plus FREE SHIPPING.

Some of my faves:

And now for the real skinny: If you want to skip a month, you can. There's no obligation to buy anything your showroom suggests for you. You can also return/exchange within 30 days if you change your mind.

How to gift this? Make a nice card for your lucky recipient with their JewelMint login information written inside. You can even say something like "6 Months of Jewelry!" While you can't set a certain amount of time for membership, you can cancel at anytime. So set a calendar alarm on your phone for six months later and remember to cancel. And if you forget, what's the harm in your loved one getting a little extra bling?

Day 4: Silver Collar Tips Chic Up Any Shirt

I was suprised at the reaction to one of my latest accessory purchases: Western collar tips. I was inspired to buy them after seeing Zara's lovely Studio Shirt was sold out everywhere I looked.

The top retailed at about $90.00, which for my taste is slightly too pricey for a Zara shirt. And it didn't even matter because right now I can't even find it on eBay. But for much cheaper, you can have a far better alternative:

Click through to read more:

For about $7.00, I bought the best part of the shirt, the tips! A common accessory in Western wear, they're a fantastic addition to a shirt buttoned to the neck in lieu of a necklace. You'll have to dig around for ones that are not blatently Western/horse/cowboy themed, but they really are jewelry in my opinion.

Here are the ones I bought; this is a photo I posted on my Instagram (follow me! Username KidViskous)

The best part about having the collar tips alone instead of the Zara shirt is that you can add them to any collared shirt you own. They have screws in the back to grasp onto the colla for a simple change-up. I bought mine off eBay and I encourage you to search around there for tips that suit you or your gift recipient. They can come in a basic generic metal for under $10 or you can find more intricately engraved, uniquely shaped, sterling silver or 14k gold ones for more. Some even come set with a semi-precious stone like turquoise or onyx.
These sterling silver vintage paisley ones are fantastic for $18 on eBay.

It's almost like DIY, but easier! A great pro-style gift for anyone looking to advance their existing wardrobe.

12 Days of Xmas - Day 1: The Light Keeper Set

I. Love. Christmas. Call me a sucker, but when the lights go up, the holiday songs start playing and everything has pumpkin spice in it, I get all tingly inside. Stealing Alexander Wang's idea, we're doing a 12 Days Of Christmas gifts countdown (A.Wang will certainly make it on our list) to inspire your holiday shopping this year. If anyone would like to send one of my picks over to me, feel completely free to do so!

Kicking off the list is a beautiful sterling silver "The Light Keeper" necklace set by James Banks. It comes with a set of tool charms: a screw driver, tweezers and a funnel along with a real glass light bulb. But the real kicker? The lightbulb is filled with 30 loose black diamonds and then some.

Click through to read more:

Harmoniously working together, the purpose of the funnel and tweezers is to aid in switching out the jewels (or "the light") inside the light bulb. The filament can also be removed and worn as a charm. I love the ability to customize your necklace with this set, and how everything has it's utility: the bulb for keeping the light, screwdriver for opening the light, tweezers for choosing the light and the funnel for transferring the light. Being able to participate in the design process, however small a contribution, is always a welcomed element--although that might only be because I'm a jewelry designer myself!

How this set actually came to my attention was that one of the James Banks designers is Adam Shulman, a.k.a. actress Anne Hathaway's freshly minted fiance. Along with jewelrysmith Heidi Nahser Fink, who does stunning metal work herself, the duo has so far released a very small collection of antique-inspired necklaces.

The set comes in a beautiful leather "tool" pouch and a polished wooden box with instructions on how to use the precious tools. Any guy or girl will be thrilled to receive this set (I know I would), but with a $1,100.00 price tag, you may just want to keep it for yourself.

Check back tomorrow for #11!

LOVE / LUST: Pamela Love Mazels, Delfina Delettrez Gives A Hand

LOVE:

Pamela Love Six Point Star Bangle - $230, Opening Ceremony
Described as, "inspired by indian and african symbols of protection, inimitable spirit pamela love delivers a spring collection of tribal, geometric, and well-worked jewelry that stuns." No mention of it totally being a Star of David? Its the SoD I'm attracted to, might have to make one for myself...

LUST:

Delfina Delettrez Skeletion Hand Belt - $2,450, Opening Ceremony
Barely into her early 20's, I love Delettrez's morose approach to luxury pieces without being overly (though still overtly) gothic. Doesn't hurt that her mother is Fendi Accessories Director Silvia Venturini Fendi and father is French jeweler Bernard Delettrez. What better accessories training can you get? I first saw this hand belt piece at the Fendi opening party in Beverly Hills last fall, but instead worn over a head wrap:
And I much prefer this stylish lady's take on this Delettrez piece than a belt!

16 Faces to Watch: Louis Vuitton's New It-Girls

Like an It-girl pin up calendar, Louis Vuitton Jewelry recruited 16 beautiful ladies of different trades and levels of Google-ability from around the globe to model their spring/summer 2011 collection. I love that LV bypassed the usual Alexa Chungs and Daisy Lowes for girls that are mostly merely local celebrities (with the exception of Oscar nom'd Rinko Kikuchi). Photos of all the girls have been released EXCEPT for Miss Number 16, who is upcoming pop singer Sky Ferreira. Luckily, you can watch video of the shoot and imagine her photograph yourself:

KidViskous Obsession: KV Justice Crosses Necklace

Tiffany Lee on Style Like U

I had the distinct pleasure of having my closet raided, rated, and orated on Style Like U, a website that conducts on-camera interviews with fashion tastemakers around the US.  Granted I haven't actually watched the video with sound because I'm too self-conscious, but thoughts that come to mind:

1.  I'm skinnier than I think I am
2.  I have the body language of Woody Allen

V-mail Mystery

So I've been getting some strange emails on my KidViskous account from subject: vmail from people just saying, "hey, cute picture", and "hope your jewelry's doing well!" Relatively inert messages. One person finally asks "What jewelry do you design?" and I take this as an opportunity to question him where/what this Vmail thing is? Turns out I completely forgot I submitted my photo to V-Magazine for the back page Vmail feature:

I wonder if I made to the actual print version, I think it's a good bet since they used my photo for the icon leading to the Vmail page.

Any crap, this guy reveals this mystery and I find my photo on the website and yay happy day whatever whatever. So who are these guys emailing me? Umar? Bradley? Kevin Johnn?

Oh

Well, Mr. Johnn had a proper email signature so the powers of Google reveal to me that he was a competitor on the first season of Project Runway, the guy who purportedly drew the mustache on the bitchy evil old lady's daughter's photo (it said that in Wikipedia, that curse must follow him everywhere). It's the only season I ever watched. Fairly prominent man I guess, I don't know how much now since Project Runway is on it's millionth season, but more than enough to make me raise my eyebrows. Besides that he worked for LVMH for Marc Jacobs and Donna Karen, but more interesting to me is that he collaborated with Matthew Barney in the Cremaster series and had his designs in a editorial styled by the late Isabella Blow. I wonder why someone who seems to find plenty of success behind the scenes of the fashion industry would subject himself to a reality TV competition. I guess a yearning for public fame and for a recognizable face? I'd love that too but not via reality shows, ick. Pretty much everyone looks like an asshole, especially when it's a vicious competition. And also because I generally hate people, but don't want everyone in the modern world to necessarily know that...

He was interested in my jewelry so maybe my shoddy outdated website will make him raise his eyebrows too. It's weird, it's not so much exciting as it is random, especially since he's a fashion designer and not say, a stylist or editor or someone that I could be of use to. My always suspicious of strangers Spidey Sense definitely kicked in...

Other than that, surreal night last night and lots of photos...but I'm not sure if their content is suitable for internet omnipresence...
